Letters of Juan José Diaz de Espada, bishop of Habana, to Juan Ruiz de Apodaca, captain general of Cuba, with drafts of replies. This correspondence forms one-half of the legajo. Among the letters the following deal with the United States: 1812, dec., papers in the investigation of the excesses committed by Fr. Santiago Vives, augustinian, chaplain of the regiment of Luisiana at Panzacola; 1814, oct., and 1815, feb., projected erection of an hermitage at Fernandina, Isla Amalia; 1816, apr., new curate for San Agustín; 1815, aug., sept., Capuchins as curates in Luisiana and Florida. Subjects treated: Notices regarding revolutionary movements of México and the attitude of the United States, with copies of several newspapers treating this subject; notices regarding Juan Mariano Picornell, including a recommendation of him; drawing of flags of the mexican republic; protests of the spanish minister regarding Florida.
