History:

Spanish architect and urban planner. In 1934, he graduated at the Architects' School of Barcelona and in 1945 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (EE.UU.). He won the first award of architecture at the National Exposition of Fine Arts in Barcelona (1942), as he created an urban plan of remodeling and ordering for Palma, which was carried out in 1950. He was professor of Urban Sociology at the Instituto de Estudios de Administración Local (Institute of Local Administrative Studies) in Madrid. His work was in favour of the preservation of artistic and architectural heritage is outstanding, as we can see between years 1963-1965, when he was general commissioner of the Patrimonio Artístico Nacional (National Artistic Heritage) and his career (1965-1975) as speaker and team member of the Consejo de Cooperación Cultural (Committee of Cultural Cooperation) for the protection of the cultural heritage of Europe, the opening of the ethnological museum Muro de Mallorca (1966) and the restoration of the tomb of Mallorca's monarch at Palma. Moreover, he is author of many books about town planning, art and architecture: "Teoría de la ciudad" (1947), "La reforma de Palma" (1950), "Pintores de Italia (1300-1800)" (1950), "Comunidad planeada" (1955), "Sociología urbanística" (1961), "Guillem Sagrera y la arquitectura gótica del siglo XV" (1970) and "Memorias de un urbanista: 1939-1979" (1986). He was granted with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government and in 1997, the committee of Mallorca gave him the first award of town planning.
