Spanish professor, lawyer, economist and politician. He was the son of Pedro Figuerola Bosch and María Ana Ballester Nin. He was married to Teresa Barrau Esplunges.

He got his bachelor degree on Laws at the Universidad Central in Madrid in 1840. He was given the Chair in 1847 by the University of Barcelona and he was appointed professor of Political Law of the European Countries and Comparative Commercial Law on the 31st of October of 1853.

He outstood for being one of the most prestigious pedagogues of his time. He was cofounder and president of the Free Society of Political Economy in 1856 and of Free Educational Institution in 1876.

He also held the following positions:

Since he participated in politics since he was very young: he was deputy, senator and Minister of Finances as a true supporter of the Progressive Party. In addition, he was founder and president of the Royal Academy of Political and Moral Sciences in 1857.

During the Sexenio Revolucionario [revolutionary six years term] he was the Minister of Finances, Grace and Justice between 1868 and 1870 under the presidency of Serrano and the general ministry of Prim. As the Minister of Finance, he instituted the peseta as the Spanish national currency unit in Spain in 1868.
