He was the son of Manuel y Encarnación and a professor in Criminal Law at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, de Sevilla and de Salamanca. During the Second Republic, he started his career as a public worker in the Administration. He obtained his doctorate in Law in 1941.

He was professor in Criminal Law at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in 1943 and was added to Universidad de Madrid when he was named Director of the Colegio Mayor Jiménez Cisneros. He asked for a voluntary leave to go back to the Administration as the Director of the Universities Section of the Ministry for National Education between 1949 and 1951. He went back to teaching at universities five years later, and was a lecturer in Criminal Law at Universidad de Sevilla. In 1962, he relocated to Universidad de Salamanca.

He was also a lawyer in Madrid and Burgos and was affiliated to the Instituto Francisco de Vitoria of the Superior Council of Scientific Research.

He was Director of the Medical Jurisprudence Section of the Legal Medicine School at Universidad de Madrid and professor of Legal Medicine at the same university. He had the same position at Universidad de Sevilla. He obtained the professional commission from Alfonso X the Wise.
