He was a professor of History of Law in several universities, he was notable due to his exclusive dedication to the Indian right. Son of José Ots Portolés and Ramona Capdequí y Miguel. He studied Law at the Universidad de Valencia and obtained the doctorate at the Universidad de Madrid in 1916.

He obtained the chair of History of the Faculty of Law of Barcelona in 1921, in which he stayed for a short time as he swapped it by the chair of the Universidad de Oviedo. He moved to the chair of the Universidad de Sevilla in 1924 and to the one at the Universidad de Valencia in 1931. He held at the same time the chair of General History of Spanish Law of the Universidad de Valencia with the technical direction of the “Centro de Estudios de Historia de América” established at the Universidad de Sevilla and the “Instituto Hispano-Cubano de Historia”.

Once the Civil War was over, he exiled to America, settled in Bogota and taught at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He gave courses at the Universities of Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and Ecuador. He went back to Spain in 1953 and asked for his dismissal. He was reinstated at the active service of teaching at the Universidad de Valencia in 1962. He retired in 1963.

Other activities:

Technical director of the Centro de Estudios de Historia de América, Universidad de Sevilla.

He founded and presided the Alizanza d'Intelectuals per la Defensa de la Cultura en Valencia.

Official of the Orden Civil de Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Cuba.

Colaborator of the journal Las Españas.
