Professor of History and Elements of Roman Law at Universidad de Salamanca and Political Economy and Statistics at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Son of Alejo Stuain Goñi and Micaela Gorraiz Petri, he started his studies in Law and Philosophy and Humanities and Universidad Central. He continued his studies in L aw at Universidad de Valencia, where he graduated in 1865. He obtained his doctorate in Civil and Canonical Law from Universidad de Valladolid in 1872.

He was named professor in Political Economy and Business Law at the Institute of Bilbao in 1865, and in 1872 he was professor of that and Geography and Business Statistics at Escuela de Comercio of San Sebastián, of which he was director between 1872 and 1874. In 1874, he was professor of History and Elements of Roman Law at Universidad de Salamanca until he was transferred in 1876 to Universidad de Santiago de Compostela to teach Political Economy and Statistics.

He was also a member of the Bar Association of San Sebastián.
