John G. Avildsen is an American film director.
He began working as manager poduction, director assistant and phtography director until he graduated in 1960 as director. He first started with comedies, but soon changed to where he really was specialised in, the action movies. It was in 1976, and with the "Rocky" movie, when he gained international fame and won an Oscar. After that, he directed many movies with no success until 1984, that he made another box-office success: "Karate Kid". He directed the whole saga and the last remake. He was also in charge of making "Rocky V" (1990).
