History:

Hal Ashby is an American film director.

He had a childhood marked by misfortune because his parents got divorced and he witnessed his father's suicide. He found his first job in Utah as montage assistant, where he won an Oscar for Best Film Editing with the movie "In the heat of the night" (1967). His debut as film director was with "The landlord" (1970), where we can see features like the hippy culture and the vegetarianism. During his 16 years directing, we can highlight movies like "Being there" (1979), "Coming home" (1978) or "Shampoo" (1975).

He died the 27th December 1988 at the age of 59.
