Herbert Ballmann was a German film and theatre producer and director.
He studied Performance in 1943 in Schiller Theatre. After the Second World War, he started his career in the German Democratic Republic. His first work on cinema was "Blue Wimpel im Sommerwind" (1952). Between 1945 and 1958, he directed the cinema studios of jueventi (Deutsche Film AG), where he directed several movies such as "Der Teufel Vom Mühlenberg" (1955). At the same year, he left the GDR and moved to West Germany, where he began working as an actor between 1959 and 1961 in the Schiller Theatre. In 1967, he organized his first television movie, but it was in 1978 when he created his most famous series: "Ein Mann will nach oven." His last works in cinema were comedies like "Einmal Ku'damm und Zurück" (1985) and "Ursela Monn un A.D.A.M." (1988).
He died the 22nd May 2009 in Berlin at the age of 84.
