Mario Bava was an Italian film director.
He studied Fine Arts but soon focused on cinema business. He first worked as camerman and later as photographer director. In this last job, he was under the orders of Jacques Tourneur. After directing several documentaries about music and some scenes of "Caitiki II mostro inmortale" (1959) and "The gaint of Marathon" (1959), he directed his first movie: "Black sunday" (1960). He started to make other horror movies with actors like Bris Karloff and got into Giallo genre. Along with Dario Argento, Bava is on of the forerunners of this genre, as we can see in some of his movies: "Blood and black lace" (1964) and "A bay of blood" (1971). He went back to horror and fantasy movies in his last years. His last movie was "Shock" (1977).
He died in Rome the 27th April 1980 due to cardiac arrest. He was 65 years old.
