History:

When Jaca was conquered at the beginning of the 10th century, a wall was built around it and the religious life was organized. Then, it acquired the city status and became the Kingdom of Aragon's capital when it received the jurisdictions given by the King Sancho Ramírez of Aragon in 1077. This situation persisted until Huesca's conquest in 1096. The new city status demanded the episcopal see's instauration, which immediately required a building for the bishop to stay.
