History:

Galician soldier and politician that was exiled. He was born in Vidaloíso (Brión, A Coruña) in 1909, son of peasants. He studied the higher secondary-education course in Santiago de Compostela and later made a Laws degree in the University of the same city. He participated in the FUE ("Fundacion Universidad Empresa"). When the II Republic started, he joined the Republican Left and later in 1933, joined "Vanguardia de Izquierda Republicana". When the Spanish Civil War started, he moved to Cuba the 21st September 1936. One year later, he came back taking part in the dissolution of the "Consejo Comunismo Libertario de Aragón". He participated in the war as soldier and was designated by Enrique Lister Head of Organisation of the XI Division and the V Force. He served in the Aragón and Catalonia fronts.

The occupation of Catalonia started at the end of 1938 and Esturau went to the French border line and entered the country through Coll de Banyols (Girona). He was accused of contraband and imprisoned three months in Perpignan and three months in Montpellier as well. He finally entered Agde concentration camp. Thanks to the help of the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE), he managed to embark "Ipanema" ship in Bordeaux. He arrived to Veracruz and moved to Mexico City.

Once there, he carried out along with other fellow countrymen in different professional activities until he finally joined the Remintong Rand. He married Adela Santaló, who was also a Spanish exiled. He did not particpate in any other political activity and came back to Spain after Franco's death, but only for a visit. He setelled in Guadalajara (Jalisco), and kept managing his business, though he already retired. He died in 2002.
