History:

It stems from the regional organizations of the Communist Party of Spain created in the three Basque provinces in 1922. The Communist Party of Euzkadi was founded in a Congress held in Bilbao in 1935, and it joined the Popular Front of Euzkadi shortly after. Upon the completion of the Spanish Civil War, the party was rendered illegal; nevertheless, it secretly remained operative in Spain and abroad, and there were also moments when it supported the Basque government-in-exile. During Spain's transition to democracy, the party was legalized again and, after it attended several election processes bearing its own acronym, it eventually merged with the coalition Unified Left of Euzkadi in 1986.
