Martín de Álzaga (Valle de Aramayona, Álava, November 11, 1755 - Buenos Aires, July 6, 1812). He was a Spanish trader and Alcalde de primer voto ? Mayor First Vote - in Buenos Aires. He intervened in the civil strife of Río de la Plata (River). He acquired a relevant role in the defense of the city of Buenos Aires before the English invasions in 1806 and 1807. In 1802, when he conspired against the Argentine Government established in 1810, he was reduced to prison and executed. In 1808, thanks to his role in the resistance against the British, the Government of Joaquín Napoleón, Grand Duke of Berg (1767-1815) decorated him with the Supernumerary Cross of Carlos III.
