Jack Cardiff was a British film and photography director. He began his career in cinematographic world as actor in silent films, and participated in the first shootings of color motion picture films. As film director, he started as photography assistant in British International Pictures and worked with Hitchcock in the movie "The skin game" (1931). His first works as photography director were for London Films and was the first film maker that filmed a movie in Technicolor: "Wings of the Morning" (1937). He also collaborated with great directors such as Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. He won in 2001 the Academy Honorary Award for his contribution to cinema industry. Among his most famous movies are: "Wings of the Morning" (1937), "A Matter of Life and Death" (1946), "The African Queen" (1951) and "The Red Shoes" (1948).
