History:

Narciso López de Urriola. Leader of the independence of Cuba who was born in Venezuela. During the Latin American independence wars, he fought in the Royalits army. After Spain was defeated, he moved to this country and served in the First Carlist War defending the liberals. He was designated in 1839 governor of Valencia and participated the next year in the revolts of 1840. He moved at the same year to Cuba, where he was Lieutenant in Matanazas and Trinidad. He was dismissed in 1843 and, from that moment, he supported the Cubans independence cause and started to act against the metropolis. In 1848, after a failed conspiracy, he fled to the USA, where he tried to make its government to be in favor of the independence of Cuba. He led several expeditions against the Spanish authorities in 1850 and 1851. He was executed in 1851 after being arrested by the Spanish army.
