Félix Durán Cañameras was a Spanish archivist. He graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona and in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Valencia. Moreover, he got a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the Central University of Madrid. He entered the Corps of Archivists, Librarians, and Archaeologists on July 26, 1913. That year he was assigned to the library of the Mahón Institute and immediately to the archive of the Treasury Office of Tarragona. Between 1915 and 1922 he served in the University Library of Barcelona. After a year working at the Public Library of Zamora, in 1923 he returned to the University Library of Barcelona, from which he was not transferred until 1939.
In addition, he passed national examinations in order to occupy the Chair of Archeology and Numismatics of the University of Barcelona.
From the political point of view, he participated, together with Lluis Companys, in the campaign "Rabassaire" in 1921. Since April 1931 he was appointed secretary of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC; Republican Left of Catalonia), which he left in 1934 to become president of Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC; Democratic Union of Catalonia).
In 1939 he moved to Barcelona in order to work as an archivist in the appellate court of that city. Due to his political militancy he was arrested and entered the Modelo prison of Barcelona in mid-1939. He was subjected to the process of service purging and in 1940 he was forcibly transferred to the Provincial Archive of Lugo.
