Spanish doctor, politician, journalist, and dramatist. Federico Castillo belonged to one of the most important families of intellectuals in Jaén. He received his doctorate in Medicine from the Central University of Madrid with the thesis 'Gastrointestinal infections: prolonged form'. He was highly respected in the health sector and also for his social and cultural commitment. As a dramatist he was also the owner of Teatro El Norte. Politically, he was the local representative of the Republican Left and he was elected parliamentary deputy for that political formation in the Spain's Second Republic. When he died, he held the presidency of the Jaén Provincial Council. He was the author of the work Don Quijote Socialista, among others.
He married Dolores García-Negrete Ruiz Zarco and they were the parents of a numerous offspring. 14 of their children survived. All of them received careful education training in law, medicine, engineering, etc. Some of them went into exile after the end of the war (e.g. Fernando, José Luis, Carlos, or Francisco) since the family remained faithful to the republican cause. Other children were imprisoned after the dispute (e.g. Federico, Manuel, Salvador, or Pablo). His wife suffered the worst part, due to the fact that she was arrested, tried and executed in Jaén in 1940.
