Spanish politician. President of the Spanish Government between 2004 and 2011. Member of PSOE. Juan Rodríguez García de Lozano, lawyer, and Purificación Zapatero Valero's son. His grandfather was Juan Rodríguez Lozano, who was a captain at the Army during the II Republic, and died in 1936. He studied Law at the University of León, and at that time he met his future wife Sonsoles Espinosa. He was a coworker professor in Constitutional Law at the University of Leon between 1983 and 1986. Zapatero was elected deputy for León in the 1986 elections, and in 1988 he became the Secretary General of the socialist federation of León. In 2000, he was elected Secretary General of PSOE in the general elections on March 2004, obtaining the victory within PSOE and becoming the V President of the Spanish Government since democracy had been established, after Suárez, Calvo-Sotelo, González and Aznar. He was elected again in the 2008 general elections until the November 2011 elections, which Popular Party won. In 2012, he was appointed member of the Council of State.
