US film director and scripter. He made his debut as a director with the short film "The Soul of the Cypress" (1921). In 1924 he co-directed the short film "Ballet mécanique" along with Fernand Léger (1881-1955). Some other Murphy's works as a director are "High Speed Lee" (1923), "Stocks and Blondes" (1928) and "Alex the Great" (1928).
