History:

US scriptwriter, producer, and film director. He is known for his comedies. He began his acting career in 1940 and debuted as a director in 1952 with the TV program "Four Star Playhouse". Later, in 1954, he began directing the series "The Mickey Rooney Show: Hey, Mulligan". In 1959 he filmed "Operation Petticoat", which was a great success, and in 1961 "Breakfast at Tiffany's". In 1963 he directed "The Pink Panther", which had several sequels. In 2004 he received an Academy Honorary Award for his work in the film industry. Some of his works as director are "The new case of inspector Closeau" (1964), "Wild Rovers" (1971), and "A Fine Mess" (1986).
