Charell, Erik (1894-1974)
Germany 1894-04-08 - Zúrich (Suiza) 1974-08-15
German scriptwriter, producer, and film and theater director. He is known for his musicals and operettas. He began his career as an actor, first acting in plays and later in films like "Nachtgestalten" (1920). Then, he began directing comedies such as "Für Dich" (1925) and "Von Mund zu Mund" (1926), and after that he adapted several classic operettas such as "Madame Pompadour". Due to his Jewish descent, he was forced to travel to the United States shortly after. In this country he directed "Caravan" (1934), which was unwelcome, so he decided to refocus on theatre plays.
