History:

Austro-Hungarian composer. He is mainly known for his operettas, such as "The Merry Widow". He began his career as assistant director at his father's band, and later as director of the military band of the Losoncz regiment. In 1902 he became director of the Vienna Theater, performing his first opera, "Wiener Frauen". He collaborated with the tenor Richard Tauber (1891-1948) on several occasions.
