History:

Puerto Rican actor and film director. He was the father of Miguel Ferrer (1955-2017) and uncle of George Clooney (1961- ). He received an Oscar for his role in "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1950). He began his career as a theater actor and in 1948 he acted in his first film, "Joan of Arc". He debuted as a film director with "The Shrike" (1955) and after that he worked for several companies, such as 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Some of his works as director are "The Cockleshell Heroes" (1955), "I Accuse!" (1958), and "State Fair" (1962).
