Person
Pino, Pedro Bautista (1752-1829)
Tome (Nuevo México, Estados Unidos) 1752 - Santa Fe (Nuevo México, Estados Unidos) 1829-04-19
He was born in the small town of Tomé, in the South of Albuquerque. His family was originally from Mexico City, but migrated to Northern New Spain. He was a prosperous landowner (a rancher), although no further details about his activities are known.
He was elected Government Representative in the Cadiz Cortes (parliament, 1810-1813), although he did not leave his province until September 19, 1811. In the Cortes he presented some historical and statistical news of the old province of New Mexico, which was published in Cadiz that same year. In them Pino stated that the biggest problem of the province was its isolation, which led to continuous incursions by the Comanche and Apache peoples. He returned to New Mexico in 1813.
On September 24, 1820, Pino was again elected as the representative of his province in the Cortes, but on that occasion, he only arrived at the port of Veracruz, Mexico, and when the funds to continue his trip to Spain did not arrive, he returned to New Mexico.
