History:

Spanish librarian, bibliographer and translator.

During the Civil War, and after losing his father at the front, he was evacuated together with other Asturian children, to the Soviet Union in 1937. There, he studied in the Instituto Superior de Biblioteconomía. He developed his career in various centres, as library inspector in Izhevsk; then in the National Library Lenin, and later on, in Radio Moscú. In 1961 he moved to Cuba, and there, for 4 years, he worked as a translator and interpreter of the Soviet military assessors destined in La Habana. He returned to Spain in 1971, and worked until his retirement in the Biblioteca Nacional de España, as his wife Gala Bobrosvskaya did. He has been a translator to Spanish of great Russian writers like Dostoievski, Tolstói, Gógol o Turguéniev. In 1987, the Unión de Escritores de la Unión Soviética awarded him the Premio Pushkin. He is author of the "Historia de la bibliografía española" and of autobiographic texts: "Cuando el mundo era Ablaña" and "Memorias de un niño de Moscú".
