Ruiz de Cabañas Crespo, Juan Cruz (1752-1824)

Spanish theologist, canon and bishop. He studied in Viana, Pamplona, Alcalá de Henares and Salamanca, graduating in Theology. He was master canon of the Burgo's canonry and the dean of the seminar of Burgos. In 1794, he was elected Bishop of Nicaragua, a see of which he did not take possession. Bishop of Guadalajara from 1796 until he died. He carried out an important social work in his diocese founding the Casa de Caridad de Guadalajara (Guadalajara's Charity House) (1801). He was elected deputy of Nueva Galicia during the Trienio Liberal (Liberal Triennium). Furthermore, he adhered to the process of independence of México.
