Franciscan (O.F.M.), General of the Order, Archbishop and Cardinal. Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba (1831-1848). He studied Latin and Philosophy in Madrid and by the time he was twelve he took the habit at the Convent of San Francisco. After passing through different convents, he continued his studies on Theology.

Throughout the Peninsular War he worked in Cádiz and later went to América, as he was deployed in the franciscan's missionary school of Mosquegua (Perú). He stayed in Montevideo and became the political advisor of the governor of the Provinces of the Río de la Plata, Gaspar Vigodet. In 1817 the Pope appointed father Alameda as General of the Order, so he started visiting the convents of Spain. After the end of the Trienio Liberal (in English, "Liberal Triennium"), he received a papal brief which granted him the extraordinary rights of Commissioner, Inspector General and apostolic reformer, in order to restore the religiuous practices in the convents of his jurisdiction.

In 1831, he was elected archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, arriving to the island the following year. He was exiled in several times because of his ideas, opposite to the ones from the liberals. In 1849, he took over as Archbishop of Burgos. Moreover, he was chosen as lifelong senator and was a founding member and academic numerary of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas (in English "Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences"). Finally, he was promoted to archbishopric of Toledo in 1857 and named cardinal the year after his arrival. He passed away in the Spanish capital at the age of 90.
