History:

He was a Japanese director and screenwriter. After studying law at the University of Tokyo, he worked as an assistant director for Daiei Film. He studied filmmaking in Italy thanks to a scholarship he won for the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Returning to Japan in the 1950s, he began directing his first films, including Kisses (1957), The Blue Sky Maiden (1957) and Warm Current (1957), and in his 20-plus years of activity he directed films in various genres, including The Wife of Seishu Hanaoka (1967), The Music (1972) and Konoko no Nanastu no Oiwai ni (1982). He died at the age of 62 from a brain hemorrhage on November 23, 1986.
