He was a Canadian film director, screenwriter, and actor. Hill's career began in silent films, and afterwards to sound films. His first film was The Trail of the Wild Wolf (1916). Some of his best known works are The Adventures of Tarzan (1921), and Tarzan the Fearless (1933), both directed and scriptwrote by him. Hill was sent by Universal Pictures to Japan to open a movie studio, but over the years it turned into failure and he came back to normal work in America. His last film was Wanderers of the West (1941).By the time he retired in the decade of the 1950s, Hill had directed nearly 100 films, including several serials, apart from acting in more than 50 films and writing as many.
