Aldrovandi, Wando (1885-1952)

Italian conductor, composer, and concert agent. He was born in 1885 in Mantua (Italy) and died in 1952 in Rose Bay (Sydney, Australia). Son of Giuseppe Aldrovandi and Emilia Menghini. He ran the Aldrovani & Carlotti concerts agency, which would later be named only Aldrovandi & C., located in Milan. He married Ursula Salla in 1900. Between 1925 and 1926, he kept correspondence with the Italian composer Alfredo Casella, encouraging him to create a C.D.N.M. (Corporazione delle Nuove Musiche) section in Milan. He also exchanged letters with Manuel de Falla, to whom he proposed doing a tour around the main Italian music societies in 1927. Since 1932 he toured in different occasions with J. C. Williamson's Grand Opera Company around New Zealand and Australia. Eventually he moved to Australia, where he remained until his death.
