Spanish pianist and teacher, with Brazilian nationality. He was born on January 6, 1895, in Valencia (Spain).
A disciple of Manuel Fernández Grajal and José María Guervós, he was considered a child prodigy. With a scholarship from the royal family, he studied piano at the Conservatorio de Madrid, where he won the Premio Stela in 1909, which allowed him to further his studies in Paris. His fame led him to give numerous concerts during his teenage years in Spain.
On November 21, 1922, he wrote to Manuel de Falla from Lisbon to request the scores and his consent to perform "Noches en los jardines de España" (1909-1916), but certain editorial issues prevented Falla from sending the work; however, he tried again on December 6, 1922, with "Fantasía Bætica" (1919), which Falla kindly sent on January 26, 1923. That same year, he accompanied violinist Paul Kochanski in a concert on March 23, organized by the Sociedad Sevillana de Conciertos at the Teatro San Fernando in Seville; during this event, the premiere of "El retablo de maese Pedro" (1919-1923) by Falla took place. A year later, in 1924, he witnessed the first meeting between Heitor Villa-Lobos and Andrés Segovia in Paris.
In 1929, he settled in Rio de Janeiro, a city where he lived for nearly forty years and worked as a piano teacher. Among his students were Arnaldo Estrella, Heitor Alimonda, Ivy Improta, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. He had a great activity with the Orquesta Municipal de Río de Janeiro.
In 1935, under the direction of Oscar Lorenzo Fernández, he gave a concert in which he performed "Concerto", a work that the conductor himself dedicated to him. The composer Mario Adrade also dedicatedto him the work for piano and orchestra "Terceira fantasía brasileria", which premiered on December 19, 1938. During the same season, on June 27, he offered a piano recital in which he performed "Fantasía cromática y fuga" by Bach; "Sonata op. 28" by Beethoven; "Estudios en forma de variaciones" by Schumann; "La puerta del vino" by Claude Debussy; "Navarra" by Isaac Albéniz; "Alma brasileira" by Heitor Villa-Lobos; and "Los requiebros" by Enrique Granados. He also participated in the 87th Anniversary of Casa Carlos Wehrs, alongside musicians such as Barrozo Netto, João Itiberê da Cunha, and Francisco Mignone.
He obtained Brazilian nationality in 1944 and returned to Spain in 1963 to accompany Paul Kochanski on his tour of Spain. He passed away on December 25, 1964, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
