History:

Swiss musicologist, writer and lawyer. Born on 1 April 1891 in Geneva (Switzerland), and died on 9 October 1960. He was born into a wealthy family from Coppet, just north of Geneva, and studied law at the Université de Genève. As a young man, he created and directed an orchestra, which later led him to become president of the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève. He married Alice Peyrot in 1919. Bory founded the Schumann Prize and chaired the organising committee of the 1927 Exposition Internationale de la Musique in Geneva, where Manuel de Falla represented Spain on the committee of honour. He was chairman of the union of the General Council from 1934 to 1947. He moved to Nyon in 1949, where he served as a justice of the peace until 1959. In 1960 he was made an honorary member of the Société Suisse des Amis de Versailles. An expert on Franz Liszt, part of his home was practically a museum dedicated to the pianist and composer.
