Spanish composer, conductor and music critic. He was born on April 9, 1887, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). He was the son of Antonio Espinar Odero, an organist. He began his musical studies with his father and was active as a performer from 1903. He conducted several Spanish orchestras, and founded a chamber group named after himself. Espinar wrote for "El correo español" in 1908 and "La Independencia: diario de noticias" in 1909; he was also a music critic for "Informaciones" and "El Debate". In 1921 he wrote the music for a fado, "Todo amor", with lyrics by Abelardo Rivera, that was sung by Sara Reina at the Teatro Cómico in Cádiz. He composed the zarzuela "Héroes de España" (1937) with libretto by Eusebio Quesada García. Espinar wrote to Manuel de Falla in 1936, asking for a photographic portrait to add to his gallery of celebrities. He also wrote "Coplas al Santísimo Cristo de la Expiración", "Coplas al Señor del Consuelo", "Ave María" and the music for the play "Entre pillos y azahares".
