Spanish piano maker and retailer.
Born in Sevilla, and passed away in the same city on 25 May 1951. Son of Cayetano Piazza. Brother of Rosa and Calixto Piazza. He inherited the Piazza piano and harmonium factory, founded by his father in 1850. In its early days, the firm was the official supplier of the Duke and Duchess of Montpensier in Seville. They also sold sheet music and gramophones, and provided tuning services for keyboard instruments. They worked with pianos manufactured by Érard, Pleyel and Gaveau in Paris; Rönisch, Hartd, Görs and Kallmann in Germany; and Cassayne in Barcelona. Although the shop was moved several times, it always remained in the Seville's centre, and in 1884 the company built a piano factory on a plot of land it owned.
Piazza instruments were highly regarded in Spain and won prizes at exhibitions in Seville (1858-1874), Cádiz (1862-1879) and Pontevedra (1880). In 1879, Luis opened a small music hall that welcomed Joaquín Turina and other prestigious musicians. He taught piano and was the Seville representative of the Sociedad de Autores. In 1920 he changed the name of the firm to "Hermanos Piazza, sucesores de L. Piazza" (Piazza Brothers, successors to L. Piazza). As president of the Orquesta Bética de Cámara from 1926 to 1929, he corresponded with Manuel de Falla, who he visited in Granada in 1927.
