Spanish composer, musicologist, choirmaster, organist and presbyter.
Felipe Rubio was born on September 13, 1881 in Valera de Arriba (Cuenca, Spain). He joined the priesthood and was ordained in 1904 at the age of twenty-one. He was named choirmaster and organist of Badajoz cathedral in 1913 and of the primate cathedral of Toledo in 1918.
The magazine "Tesoro Sacro Musical" printed a list of his compositions, compiled by the priest Jerónimo Bonilla, which included titles like "Eres más pura que el sol" (1917), "Viva el apóstol Santiago" (1919), "Cuatro cánticos para cuaresma" (1920) or "Con tu seráfico celo" (1928). The same periodical also published Rubio's articles "Música y músicos toledanos" (1923), where he presents the biographies of musicians previously associated with the Toledo cathedral, and "Códices polifónicos toledanos" (1925), describing the contents of thirty-four polyphonic codices held at the Toledo cathedral.
Other articles he published in "Tesoro Sacro Musical" are "El archivo musical de la catedral de Toledo" (1927), "La riqueza de España en la música polifónica" (1929-1930), "Espigando en el campo de la historia" (1931), "Organografía toledana" (1931), "Organistas de la catedral del Toledo en el siglo XIX" (1933-1934) and "El órgano de las Comendadoras de Santiago" (1936).
His catalogue of compositions includes "Ya que el sol sus ardores retira" (1917), "O beatum Apostolum" (1920), "Pangue lingua" (1920), "Como luz universal" (1928), "Jaculatorias a Jesús, María y José" (1928), "Justo juez de las almas" (1931), "Sacra familia bendita" and "Salve Regina" (1932). At the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, he was arrested and executed by firing squad on July 26, 1936, in Toledo (Spain)
