Director of the Warburg Institute. Daughter of Moritz Bing and Emma Jonas, she started studying in 1909 at the High School of Hamburg. After passing the German university entrance exam, she began a degree in Philosophy in Munich and Hamburg. In 1922, she started working at the Warburg Library of Hamburg as a personal assistant of its founder, Aby Warburg. After the Nazis came to power, the library that turned into the Warburg Institute in 1921, directed by Fritz Saxl, was transferred to London. There, Gertrud Bing settled in and continued to be part of the institution until she achieved the position of director in 1955. During World War II, she collaborated with the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service, although she had to leave it to suspicion due to her German origin.
