Juan José Ruiz de Apodaca y Eliza (Cádiz, Spain, February 3, 1754- Madrid, January, 11, 1835).
He was a noble, a politician and a Spanish soldier. Venadito's first Count. Major of navy. Field- marshal of Cuba and the two Floridas, Nueva España's Viceroy (1816-1821) and field-marshal of the Armada.
He was the son of Tomás Ruiz de Apodaca y López de Letona y de Eusebia de Eliza y Lasquetti. When he was Nueva España's viceroy he was conciliatory with the supporters of the independence and the insurgents. Because of that, he was very popular and he pacified the uprising to the metropolis. When Trienio Liberal begans in 1820, according to the new rules of the Constitution, he was named as the political chief of Nueva España (1820-1821) and field marshal of the Spanish Real Army. He left this position after the insurgent of absolutist soldiers and their leader, Agustín Itúrbide (1783-1824), who reached an agreement with the independents and suspend the implementation of the new orders. He was member of Calatrava's order since 1783. He died in Madrid.
