Tamarite de Litera (Huesca, España) 1581 - Paris 1660
French priest. Sanctified by the Iglesia Católica.
Born in the region of Landas (France), nowadays known as Berceau of Saint Vincent de Paul. Due to the economic situation in his family, he had to work as a sheep shepherd in order to help. He did the primary and secondary studies in Dax, and the superior ones in Toulouse, where he studied Philosophy and Theology for 7 years. He also attended some studies in Zaragoza. He ordained with the goal of being a parish priest-at the age of 20-in order to help his family. He did so and was a parish priest and a chaplain for 20 years. He founded the first Confraternidad de la Caridad (1617, Châtillon-les-Dombes); the Congregación de la Misión, with the help of a family he worked for; and the College des Bons-Enfants of Paris (1626). With Santa Luisa de Marillac's help, he created the Hermanas de la Caridad, an altruist organization that helped to the foundation of Paris Hospital.
He passed away in 1660 in Paris.
