Spanish journalist and librarian.
Born in Sevilla in 1906, and she moved to live in Santander because of her father's job, as a caretaker in the Escuela de Náutica.
He was activist of the Juventudes Socialistas and of the Agrupación Socialista of Santander. She married the journalist Luciano Malumbres, who got to direct the newspaper La Región, during the II Republic, and Matilde started to collaborate in it. At the same time, she was assistant in the Biblioteca Municipal of Santander.
After the murder of his husband by the falangists, in June 1936, she became director of the newspaper, and remained in that position until its definitive closing in 1937. During the Civil War, she abandoned the socialist ideology, and joined the Communist Party.
When the Francoist troupes entered Santander, he took refuge in Asturias, and from there she tried to run away to France by boat, but it was stopped by the national fleet, being moved to Santander, where she was object of a Consejo de Guerra, who sentenced her to death. She was executed on 28 May 1938.
