History:

The first Jesuit School built in Cuenca was located in San Pedro Street, one of the oldest ones of the city. In 1554, the first Jesuits settled in a house given by the canon Pedro del Pozo, located in the previous mentioned street. To adjust the house to its new owner's needs, the master of stonework, Juan de Palacios, carried out an important reform that was financed by Pedro de Marquina, the King's priest and the canon of Cuenca's cathedral. At the end of the 16th century, concretely in 1591, the master of stonework Pedro de Mendizábal and the carpenter Juan López paved the building. In its early times, it counted on two elementary education teachers. According to the National Historical Archive's documents, the school received donations, inheritances, and sources coming from the census of proper towns since it was founded and during the two following centuries.

Context:

Después de la expulsión de la Orden del territorio español, por la ley decretada por Carlos III, el edificio pasó a albergar la Fundación a la Memoria de los Niños Expósitos de San Julián.

La portada del edificio es, el último vestigio que se conserva hoy en día, de este colegio Jesuita que hubo en Cuenca. El colegio contaba con iglesia propia conocida como Iglesia de la Circuncisión, de la que hoy nada sabemos, toma el nombre del tema representado en el retablo y pinturas de su interior, estas últimas realizadas por Cincinato, pintor florentino, que trabajó en la Corte de Felipe II .
