This foundation of the Society of Jesus in Andújar took place thanks to Francisco Pérez de Vargas, Count of la Quintería and resident in Andújar, who donated his goods. Pérez de Vargas died in 1606 and left his possessions for the construction of a house and college that was going to teach Grammar, Latin, basic education, Arts and Rhetoric for free to all the social classes of Andújar. This construction arrived late since one of Pérez de Vargas' cousins, who had been disinherited from the will, litigated for years to revoke his cousins' last choice. In 1623, the works of this house and college of the Society of Jesus started. It is a building that comprises two floors around a squared patio with Classicist horizontal openings. The exterior decoration was sober; the interior decoration possessed colorful stuccos that were typical from the Rococo, a style that had proliferated all over this zone in the 18th century. It stopped operating after Charles III's Pragmatic Sanction (1759-1788).
When the Jesuits were expelled, the local government took the college and, for several years, it continued working as a school. However, in the middle of the 19th century, it became a Care House. In the 20th century, it started operating as a Municipal Hospital and it is still dedicated to the same purposes.
