History:

Spanish gynecologist.

Son of José Cardús Luna, an engineer in the Cuerpo de Geógrafos, and María Patrocinio Llanas Aguilanedo, he was born in Huesca in 1908. At a very early age, he became an orphan and was raised by his maternal grandparents, who owned a pharmacy. He studied in Huesca and Zaragoza, where he obtained his degree in Medicine. He continued his studies at various European university centers. In the summer of 1934, he traveled to Freiburg to specialize in gynecology. During his stay, he witnessed Adolf Hitler's rise to power and the emergence of the Third Reich. In order to share his impressions of this event, he wrote over one hundred articles about the situation in Germany, which were published in the newspaper La Tierra between 1934 and 1936. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, he returned to Huesca and was assimilated as a second lieutenant and later promoted to medical lieutenant, a position he held until July 1939.

After the war, he dedicated himself entirely to his career as an obstetrician and gynecologist both in the capital of Huesca, where he opened several clinics over the years and served as head of the Toco-gynecology department at the Beneficencia Provincial from 1941, as well as in Barbastro. He published numerous books on the subject, particularly Higiene del embarazo (1945), which went through several editions. He also wrote books and articles in newspapers and magazines on history, tourism, and anthropology, with his monumental work Turismo altoaragonés published by Heraldo de Aragón being particularly noteworthy. In 1973, he was appointed a corresponding academic for Huesca in the Real Academia Catalana de Bellas Artes de San Jorge.

He passed away in Barbastro in 1982.
