It is the successor of the Publishing Society of Spain, constituted by several newspapers, such as 'Herald' and 'The Liberal' (Madrid), 'The Liberal' (Seville), 'The Defender' (Granada), 'The Liberal' (Murcia), the magazine 'Royal' and the weekly newspaper 'Practical Fashion'. The Universal Publishing Society was a successful publishing group in the times of the Republic. Upon the Spanish Civil War, its properties were seized by Francoist troops.
