History:

This Mixed Brigade was created at the beginning of 1937, when several militias constituted a formation under the direction of the proficient communist soldier Luis Barceló Jover (1896-1939). It was later commanded by the Italian Nino Nanetti. He was in charge of the sector of Valdemorillo-Las Rozas in the Madrid front. He took part in the second attack on the highway of La Coruña, as well as in the Battle of Guadalajara at a later stage. Fixed in this area, the brigade sided with the casadistas¹. It was constituted by the 137th, 138th, 139th and 140th battalions, commonly known as "Edification Nº25", "Largo Caballero", "Passion flower" and "Jaime Graells", respectively. Ramón Mercader del Río was the Major of the latter battalion.
