The Chamber of the Indies was founded in 1600 to ensure the supply of civilian and ecclesiastic positions. It was constituted by the president and three counsellors, while the members of the Council of the Indies acted as secretaries.
The Chamber was abolished in 1609, then reestablished in 1644, once again revoked in 1701 and reestablished in 1721.
