It is a Spanish political party that stems from the Liberal Republican Right. The Liberal Republican Right was a Spanish political party led by Niceto Alcalá Zamora. Upon the proclamation of the II Republic, the party took part in the election to the 1931 Constituent Assembly as part of the Republican-Socialist Conjunction and won 22 seats. In August 1931, the party was renamed as the Progressist Republican Party (hereinafter referred to as PRP). During the constitutional discussions, the liberals, joined by the radicals of Lerroux, abandoned the Republican-Socialist coalition. Shortly after, in January 1932, its left wing led by Miguel Maura was split, and thirteen deputies from the Progressist Republican Party joined the Conservative Republican Party. The PRP disappeared at the onset of the Civil War in 1936.
