History:

Marie Julie Clary (Marseille, France, 26 December 1771 Florence, Tuscany, 7 April 1845), wife of Joseph I Bonaparte, Queen Consort of Spain from 1808 to 1813 and Queen Consort of Naples from 1806 to 1808.

Julia Clary was the daughter of François Clary, a rich silk merchant from Marseille (1725-1794), and his second wife, Françoise Rose Somis (1737-1815), as well as the elder sister of Eugénie Désirée Clary, queen of Sweden and Norway.

She married Joseph I Bonaparte, Napoleon's older brother, on August 1, 1794 in Cuges-les-Pins (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). The couple had three daughters: Julie Joséphine Bonaparte (1796), Zénaïde Laetitia Julie Bonaparte (1801-1854), married to Charles Lucien Bonaparte (1803-1857), and Charlotte Napoléone Bonaparte (1802-1839), married to Napoleon Louis Bonaparte (1804-1831), king of Holland during 1810.

Julia Clary was never in Spain and during her husband's reign she remained in Paris, defending his interests.
