Spanish liberal politician, jurist, lawyer and professor. He was the son of Ramón Durán y Obiols and Eulalia Bas. He was married to Claudia Ventosa Frías and they had several children.

He started his academic training studying Philosophy at the University of Barcelona and he was awarded the degree and the doctorate at the Faculty of Law.

His academic career was developed around the University of Barcelona since he was appointed professor of Criminal and Commercial Law, professor of Extension of Criminal and Commercial Law and International Law. In addition, he was Rector of the University.

He also held the following positions:

Professor of Political Economy and Commercial Geography at the Institute that was maintained by the Development Society of the Enlightenment.

Secretary, librarian and president of the Section of Public Education and Public Welfare Committee from the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country from Barcelona.

Secretary of the Royal Academy of Belles Lletres of Barcelona.

Justice of the Peace.

Chair at the Provincial Board of Public Education.

Member of the Academiy of Jurisprudence and Legislation from Barcelona and Madrid.

Member of the Royal Academy of Political and Moral Sciences in Madrid.

Deputy in the Spanish parliament by the constituency of Barcelona.

President of Athenaeum from Barcelona.

Substitute judge of the Court of Appeal from Barcelona.

Minister of Grace and Justice.
