History:

He was a Spanish professor of Law and bishop who was born in Cieza (Murcia), son of José Luis Gonzaga Mérida Pérez and Antonia Pérez Moreno.

He studied high school at the Instituto de Granada and graduated in Law at the Universidad Central de Madrid in 1922, obtaining the doctorate in Law in 1924. He graduated in Philosophy and Humanities at the Universidad de Granada in 1931, obtaining his doctorate in Philosophy and Humanities in 1942.

Professor of Institutions of Canon Law of the Universidad de Murcia in 1935. He was dismissed and arrested at the provisional prison of Murcia, where was at disposal of the Civil Governor of the Province. Finally, he was reinstated without sanction in his assignment in 1939. He was appointed rector of the Universidad de Murcia in 1939. Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the said university in 1942. Appointed honorary rector in 1944.

Other activities he carried out were:

Priest. Bishop of Astorga in 1943. Lawyer at the Cortes Españolas from 1943 to 1946.
